(Hali Hammer)

Earth People’s Park was where we met, you living on the land
Then we went south to Watkins Glen, you moved into our van
And you lived with us for a long time, and in time we’d moved on
But you always lived right in our hearts, and it’s hard to hear you’re gone
Yes, it’s hard to hear you’re gone

Yeah, you sure were a character, your difference always showed
You always had to stir things up, or move on down the road
And most people called you crazy, but a few knew you were sane
You just had to keep the laughter up to shut out all the pain
To shut out all the pain

I still talk about the stunts you pulled, and how you carried on
The things you’d eat, the way you’d drink, how now you weighed a ton
How you hitched away from prison, how you played and sang your song
About all the tall tales you would tell to feel like you belonged
     To feel like you belonged

Yeah, you always liked to startle and you always liked to clown
And you always liked to party, yeah you liked to kid around
You liked playing with the children, you liked talking on the phone
‘Bout the only thing you didn’t like was being left alone
     Was being left alone

And I bet that you’d be glad to know how many people cared
Cause you shared a part of life with us that most folks haven’t dared
And I’ll think about you often, cause I often think of you
And I’ll miss the late-night phone calls where I said, “I love you, too
Where I said, “I love you, too.”
