GYPSY-O
(Hali Hammer)

When I was just a young girl I’d spin a daring dream
Of dancing & singing merry-o
My tambourine would rattle, my sequined clothes a-gleam
How I wanted to be a gypsy-o
Dressed up in long skirts & beads
The future I’d try to see
Oh I was just a young girl & never far from home
But in daydreams I’d be a gypsy-o
Gypsy life romantic! Handsome dashing men
Long-haired Esmeralda laughing in the wind
Mystery & music, crystal ball aglow
Oh, the magic of being a gypsy-o!

One day I met a wanderer who led me to a road
And it beckoned & said, “Come to me-o!”
We left the world behind us, I dropped my heavy load
And I ran off to be a gypsy-o
     We followed the brightest star
We danced & I played guitar
Then back again I tumbled, once more to stay at home
But with memories of being a gypsy-o
Gypsy life romantic! Handsome dashing men
Long-haired Esmeralda laughing in the wind
Mystery & music, crystal ball aglow
Oh, the magic of being a gypsy-o!

Now many years have flown by, my children they are grown
So I gazed off into a crystal-o
I saw a joyous waving, it was my friend the road
Who said, “Where have you been, I’ve missed you-o!”
I replied, “It has been too long - with you is where I belong!”
And now the trail will guide me, the earth will be my home
And in life I will be a gypsy-o
Gypsy life romantic! Handsome dashing men
Long-haired Esmeralda laughing in the wind
Mystery & music, crystal ball aglow
Oh, the magic of being a gypsy-o!
Yes, the magic of being a gypsy-o!
